Bidvest Wits FC signs up 10 new players

In the 2002/2003 season, Bidvest pledged their support of South African soccer by investing in a sponsorship with the Wits University Football Club. So fruitful was this relationship that, in May 2006 Bidvest, bought a large stake in the club and have formed a formidable partnership that most other PSL clubs can only envy.

As a result of this sollid partnership, Bidvest Wits earned promotion into the challenging Castle Permiership League. Aware of the demanding road that lies ahead in 2006/2007, Bidvest Wits has beefed up its side with 10 new signings.

Chief executive of Bidvest, Brian Joffe, is pleased with the result: "We are delighted to confirm our status as the majority shareholder. This will ensure that we will increase our investment in the development of domestic fotball as well as the numerous students on the Wits campus and the supporters in the surrounding areas."

Goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs has signed for five years, while U23 Ivorian star midfielder, Camara Madari, has signed as well. Phil Evans, bought from Supersport United, will no doubt strengthen the team defence with his experience, including ten Bafana Bafana caps.

Five-times Bafana Bafana star, Lucas Sebona, will cover the right wing for the next two years. Also new to the club are 27 year old defender Nhlanhla Kubeka, previously of Kaizer Chiefs and Sepeke Manamela previously of PJ Stars.

Further strengthening the team is goalkeeper Sean Roberts, previously of Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as 23 year old midfielder, Rene Richards, prevously of Kazier Chiefs. Central midfielder, Noah Chivuta, previously with City Pillars, has signed for two years as well.

The last of the purchases is Boitumelo Moleyana who played for Bidvest Wits FC last season on loan from Bloemfontein Celtic. Bidvest Wits will be using his services for the next two years.

Coach Boebie Solomons is excited about the upcoming season and believes that Bidvest Wits FC will be a serious threat: "I have absolutely no doubt that we are going to form a formidable side, and we are going to maintain the winning Bidvest Wits way."
